About two years ago, we decided to run a 15/17” wheel stagger for more tire selection, and in doing so, we had to install smaller front calipers (More detail on that here). The Cup brakes that our S240 came with were too big for 15” wheels. We were able to get a few 15” wheels to fit over them, but it required running some large wheel spacers. The set up we decided on were the AP Radical front calipers and the OEM 2 Pot calipers in the rear. Since the changes, the brakes never felt as good as the stock set up. The larger calipers require more fluid volume, and with the stock master cylinder, that meant the pedal had more travel and felt softer. We also noticed more ABS “ice mode”, which could be related to the change in brake bias and front to rear tire diameter.

This year seems to be just flying by. We last raced at the end of March, and since then the team has been busy with a wide variety of cool projects at the shop. Personally, my calendar has been filled with work, travel, and everything in between. One event in particular that transpired during this time was the official launch of the Yokohama A055 tire.
Before doing anything K-swap related to the new chassis, we started by transferring parts over from the original tub to the new one. Since this was a low mileage car, it wasn’t difficult selling the drivetrain. Timing worked out perfectly as there was another Elise in our shop needing a motor due to a failure.
Another SpeedSF Challenge time attack is in the books! The Exige returned to Laguna Seca on 6/17 to test the chassis changes, again competing in the S2 class. The winning time was a 1:39.7, besting a Porsche Cayman GT4 which took second place. Note that the lap shown is a 1:39.8 which could have been even faster if it were not for the need to pass an oversteering M3 just after the corkscrew.
This past Saturday, the Exige returned to Sonoma Raceway for the SpeedSF Challenge time attack event in the "S2" class. The competition in this class includes cars such as the Porsche Cayman GT4, Chevy Corvette (C5 Z06 and C6 Z51), and highly modified Hondas and Subarus. This was the first outing with several changes to the Exige performed by Trackspec intended to help it be more competitive without compromising the ability to drive it on the street with a full interior and air conditioning.

Whether you're out here with your daily driver or your fully built street-illegal racecar, you're here to have a good time. There's something about that adrenaline rush you get seconds before you're on the track; something about that feeling of control you have of your car; getting to know your car and its limits, getting to know your own skill level and areas for improvement, knowing when to back down and let others pass you by, and just being around other people who share that same passion for cars. Well, for those of you who don't know what it's like, we thought we'd share what a typical day at the track is for us.
Yesterday, we attended Speed SF's Year End Banquet at GoKart Racer in Burlingame. We met a couple of people and had a great time.
Trackspec Autosports joins customers and friends for a fun day at the track with SpeedSF. Jon achieved his personal best at 1:45.5 in his daily driven VW Golf R. Our customers, Andrew, Jeff, Sam, Brian, Fred were also there with us.
